Sarod presentations - June & July 2010
I am delighted to tell you that Shahadat Hossain Khan, the esteemed Sarod virtuoso has been able to schedule a trip to the UK into his performance programme this year. We would like to also take this opportunity to share this wonderful instrument with young people across the country and we are giving you an early chance to book a visit as his schedule will soon fill up! The dates currently available are from 16 June to 15 July.
The Sarod is a fascinating Indian classical instrument with many strings and a captivating sound. Its voice can be serene as well as vibrant and bright. I will accompany him on the Tabla which is the driving force behind traditional Indian music, Bhangra, Bollywood and Bangladeshi folk tunes.
This year we are also offering a chance to experience the ancient sounds of the Saringi. A north Indian bowed Instrument which will also be accompanied by me on the Tabla. Furthermore we will be presenting Bhangra Dohl Drumming.
For Primary and Junior schools we can offer an assembly or classroom session to introduce the instruments and share stories, simple rhythms and melodies.
For Secondary schools we will devise workshops to teach ragas and rhythms and to explain how these instruments fit into the fascinating realm of Indian music.
